What works today

MuchAdo is early. This page is a status list rather than a roadmap: it says what is built, what is half-built and what has not been started. It is kept honest on purpose — there is no point discovering the gaps one at a time.

Works
Words on macOS Apple Silicon. The editor runs, renders and edits real documents.
Open and save .docx, .odt, .rtf, .txt. Save, Save as, New.
Images Preserved on open and save; Insert ▸ Image works.
Print Renders to PDF and opens it in your PDF viewer.
Settings persist Theme, units, spellcheck language and the like survive a restart.
Payload install From a local directory of built artifacts, verified against hashes shipped in the application.

Half-built

The payload origin. The application knows how to fetch, verify and install its payload from a static server. The server does not exist yet, so in practice you install from a directory.

Linux. The container build is written but has not been run, so nothing is claimed for it. The host itself already works under WebKitGTK — that part was proved early.

Not started

  • Slides and Tables. Words first. The editors exist upstream; the packaging and host work does not.
  • More than one document at a time. One window, one document. No tabs, no window menu.
  • Native menus. The menus you see are the editor's own, drawn in the page. A Mac application should have a real menu bar, and it will.
  • Recent documents. Nothing remembers what you opened last.
  • File locking. Two copies of MuchAdo editing the same file will not notice each other.
  • Help inside the app. See below.
  • Windows. Needs a build machine we do not have yet.
  • Collaboration, cloud storage, accounts, telemetry. Not planned. MuchAdo is a local application.

Notes on specific gaps

Help

There is no Help menu in the application, and this page is the substitute for now. Upstream ships a full manual, but it documents ONLYOFFICE rather than MuchAdo, and it weighs 84 MB in eight languages — so MuchAdo does not carry it. In-application help comes back when there is documentation of our own to point at.

Fonts

MuchAdo ships a core font set: Liberation, Carlito, Caladea, Open Sans and a few others — enough to render ordinary documents faithfully, at 7 MB instead of 248. A document that asks for a font outside that set, and outside the fonts installed on your machine, will be laid out with a substitute. Widening the set, particularly for CJK, is an open decision.

Rendering fidelity

The layout engine is upstream's and is mature. Where you see something wrong, it is much more likely to be our packaging — a missing font, a missing resource — than the engine. That makes such reports especially useful; please send feedback with the file.
